I'm in my fifth season coaching fastpitch softball, and third with Turnin2. I grew up playing baseball in Brighton before graduating from Michigan State, and recently moved back to my old hometown with my fantastically supportive wife and two talented daughters.
As the 12U head coach, my staff and I are focused on all facets of player development, from knowledge of the game to physical skill set and proper mechanics. This is also the ideal age to learn the concepts of commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship and the value of competition.
Our practices are structured and purposeful, and include utilizing tools like Jaeger Bands and Blast Motion bat sensors to improve our game. Beyond metrics, we stress the concept of Mental Toughness: mentally tough athletes focus their time and energy on their goals by being self-directed and highly motivated. In other words, they want it more, and do what it takes to get it.
The biggest reward for me is to see a love for the game develop at this young age. We look forward to having fun, training hard, refining skills and always challenging ourselves to get better.
